A Letter To My Niece And Nephews

You are too young to read and understand this, but one day you will.

Dear Niece/Nephews,

Before you were born I had no idea that I could love you as much as I love you today. I have the privilege to watch you grow up, live life and change as you get older. That is the most wonderful gift anyone could have ever given me. I have always loved kids, but my love for you is a love like no other.

Every time I hear you yell my name, being so excited to see me, it makes my heart overflow with love and joy. Anytime you smile at me when I say your name and hold you in my arms, it makes me feel very special and loved. Before you were born I had no idea I would love you as if you were my own child.

When I look at you now, I cannot help but imagine what you will be like when you get older, and what your interests will be. I hope that as you grow up I have taught you some valuable lessons that you can always carry with you. I hope that we have made some cherish-able memories that you will always remember and look back on when you get older. I hope that I have loved you with everything in me and that you know how much I love you (because its quite a lot!). No matter what happens I will always be here for you. I’m basically like your second mom, but just a little bit cooler.

I look back on life before you were born and I realize how boring and dull it was! God gave me the three most precious gifts in the world, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. As weird as this is going to sound there is nothing better than being spit up on by babies and told what to do by a 2 year-old. I will carry these memories with me forever. I treasure every moment I get to see you and play with you. You may not remember these moments very well when you grow up, but I sure as heck will.

Right now you are too young to read this or understand it, but one day you will. I have so many hopes and dreams for you. I want you to grow up happy and confident in yourself. I want you to love yourself for who you are, because their is no one exactly like you. I want you to grow up knowing how much I and others love you. I want you to know that you can always come to me for anything (and I mean anything). I want you to grow up learning about Jesus and how He loves all of us. I want you to know that God is always with you and will help you through everything and anything that you need. Most of all, if you don’t remember any of this, I want you to remember how much I have and will always love you as the years go by.

Sincerely,

Your Aunt

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
