A Letter To My Letter Of Acceptance

I wouldn’t have made it here without you, Letter! I can’t ever thank you enough for that…

Dear Letter of Acceptance,

“SMALL ENVELOPE

BIG NEWS”

Big news, indeed. Although I was glad to see you, it actually came as no surprise, for I knew of the decision that you held within your small envelope a week beforehand. When I found out about the news of my decision through SOLAR, I was so psyched that I literally let my phone drop with a thud onto the table (thankfully, it didn’t break) and let out a scream of joy!

My parents were around when that happened, for I didn’t want to open the message on my phone without them there to see my reaction, and of course, they got the message (from my behavior). They couldn't have been prouder of me...

Let’s be honest, Letter: I was very worried that I wasn’t going to get to hold you in my own hands.

When I told everyone I knew that I decided to transfer to Stony Brook University, they more or less told me the same thing: “Good luck, it’s a tough school to get into.”

From my perspective, it wasn’t very reassuring when I was coming from a more lenient school like Molloy College, but I still clung to the hope of getting accepted, and then you made your way to me… after the message on SOLAR.

However, the message of my decision on SOLAR wasn’t really much of a souvenir when I copied and pasted onto a Microsoft Word document and printed it out, even though I think I still have it around somewhere. So, I decided to keep you around in my book bag, as a reminder of what I went through in trying to get into a more prestigious institution like SBU.

Nowadays, I might need a reminder like you to keep me on my feet with my studies and other commitments as well as continue to figure out my interests with clubs and other activities.

Don’t you ever forget it: I wouldn’t have made it here without you, Letter! I can’t ever thank you enough for that…

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
