Dear ______,
First of all, I’m sorry; not for the fact that you’re my friend, but that I have selected you to take the role of being my best (guy) friend. Being the guy best friend includes a way different role than my girl friends have. So, I’m sorry, but also thank you for putting up with all of my girly-ness. From listening to my endless venting about how much girls suck to helping me choose which outfit to wear, you are always there and always ready to help.
Thank you for constantly dealing with my drama. Whether it’s me crying over the most recent heartbreak or complaining about how mean girls can be, you’re always there to listen. I think the best part about having a guy as a best friend, is that it’s drama free. There is no pressure of a relationship; it’s just easy going and fun between the two of us.
Your talents always amaze me. You seem to have a superpower where you know just the right things to say to me. If a guy treats me poorly, you speak up, and even though it might be hard for me to hear, you tell me how it is and that I deserve better. When I feel like I’m not enough you tell me that you’ll never leave me and that I matter in your world. When I tell a terrible joke, you make sure to laugh, because it’s your job and you love seeing the smile on my face.
Something else I love about you is that you can take a joke. Girls always get offended if I tease them or tell them they look funny, but you just take it and throw it right back at me. I’m glad we can laugh at each other.
If I’m being honest, your opinion on my wardrobe matters most. Girls can tell what looks good, but guys know what guys like. You always tell me the truth, and sometimes you even help me get a little hotter.
My favorite time spent with you is cuddled up on the couch with my head in your lap. I love being able to have a close relationship with you where I can just let you hug me and play with my hair. It’s nice to not have to worry about impressing you, because well, you’re you.
Growing up can be hard, but you’re the reason for my confidence. When someone tells me I’m bad at singing, you just tell me to sing louder, when I complain that I’m fat, you tell me I’m the skinniest thing you’ve ever seen and that I need to gain weight, if someone honks their horn at me, you tell me they were being an ass, and when that failed exam comes home with me, you tell me you failed the same one. Thank you for always making me feel beautiful and successful (even when I’m not).
I know after you read this letter, you’ll probably never let it down. I will forever have to hear how “amazing” you are, but to tell you the truth (even though I will deny it), you are everything I could ask for in a friend. You bring excitement into my life (remember the time we went exploring and both fell in the mud?) and I would never want anyone else. Your friendship is pure; you don’t expect anything out of me or want any more than I give you. The most important thing that I’ve learned is that boyfriends come and go, but you always stay. So from now on, you trump all boys. I’m so glad that I have you by my side.
Sincerely,
Your best girl friend.
P.S. Sorry I call you “annoying” all the time, yell at you, make you do things for me, and forget to respond to your texts. I promise I still love you.
