An Open Letter To My Grandparents
Wilson Family Chiropratic

Nana, Papa, Grandma Haught, and Grandpa Haught,

I know everyone probably says this, but I have been blessed with the best two sets of grandparents in the entire world. You all are four of the strongest, most resilient people I know.

Grandpa Haught, I never got to meet you, but from what my family tells me, you seem pretty awesome. My Mom talks about you all the time. You had such a love for music and people, I can just tell by the way the people in my life speak about you.

Grandma Haught, you died when I was in the 3rd grade, but what I remember of you is wonderful. I remember you reading to me and my brother and making strange crafts out of various Styrofoam objects. You always knew creative ways to keep us entertained. I’m like you in many ways; many people have told me that I look like you, I’m pursuing an education degree, I love music, etc. I wish I got to know you better and that I got to meet Grandpa Haught.

Nana, you inspired me to be a feminist. You never let being a woman get in the way of your advancement in the oil business. You took on being called a “doll” when you were the boss, and you kept going raising three ruly boys for a little while after Grandpa Chuck died. You taught me the importance of being a classy lady, and always give me solid advice.

Papa, you’ve taught me the importance of working hard for what you want. You’ve taught me that school and getting an education is incredibly important. Thank you for always supporting me in whatever endeavor I pursue. You’ve taught me a lot about how to be a leader and how to make a business run well. You and Nana have given me so many opportunities and gifts I could’ve never dreamed of and I am forever grateful.

Thanks for being awesome. You’re the best I could’ve ever asked for.

With Love,

Your Granddaughter

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
