To My Little Sister

You've shaped me into the person I want to be and I hope I do the same for you.

To My Little Sister
Sussel Ibarra

I remember when I was younger I had always wished for a younger brother or sister. When mom told me she was pregnant it was as if everything in my life had taken a turn for the best, and I still think that to this day. I remember the first time that I held you I felt responsible for the first time and excited to grow into the best big sister I could be for you.

I know that the huge age difference between us is annoying at times. I know that you want to play dolls or color, or maybe even play on the GameCube while all I want to do is read, watch tv, or take a nap. I know that sometimes you think that I am mean, but you got to admit you do get a little annoying and you get pretty mean yourself. But no matter what, just know that I am completely happy and blessed to have you in my life.

I hope that I have been a good enough example for you and that you learn good things from me, because I sure as heck have learned plenty of things from you. I know that you joke around all the time about how we are "sisters by chance, friends by choice," and you are right. At the end of the day, you are one of the people I consider to be my best friend, no matter how small you are.

My wish for you is that you blossom into the beautiful young woman I know you can be. You are smart, talented, and beautiful beyond words, and I want you to remember that always. Know that I will have your back whenever you need me, no matter if it's to defend you from a mean girl at school or to get you out of doing chores with mom.

Remember that the world is a big place and you can do anything you set your mind to. Don't listen when people tell you that a dream is too big because you can achieve anything. You have more potential than you think and don't be discouraged by thinking that others are smarter or better than you. Life is not a competition.

You haven't experienced it yet, but life can be very difficult at times. It is easy to lose sight of the things you want and the things you need. There are times where you are going to be upset and wish that certain things didn't happen but that is what I am here for. I'll be here to remind you of how great you are and teach you how to grow.

My biggest hope for you is that you live a happy life and that you love the person you become.

I see in you the youth that I am slowly beginning to lose myself. I see your positive attitude and your humor. I see that you are optimistic and don't worry about anyone but yourself and those are great qualities to have.

Always remember to stay humble and appreciate the things that others do for you. But most importantly, remember that no matter what happens, I will always love and protect you. You are the best little sister I could have ever asked for and no matter how many times I tease you or mess around with you, know that I love you from the bottom of my heart.

Love,

Your big sister.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
