Dear Chi,
First off, let me say that you are loved more than you know. From the moment I received the call from your mom telling me that you were coming , I knew you would be something special. Waiting the 9 months was worth every second once I laid eyes on your chubby little face and tiny feet. You stole a piece of my heart as soon as you opened your precious little eyes to look at me. I know that I am not your mom, and that I never will be but I get to be the next best thing in your life: your aunt.
And Since you're new around here, and just getting to know everyone, I thought it might be helpful if you had some inside information on how things work in this family so you can be prepared for the crazy as much as possible.
1.First off, we're a family that loves.
You have so many people in your life who already love you at 21 days old. And that number will only grow. As your family, we will support your wildest dreams as much as possible. We will argue. We won't always get along. But we will love you with our whole hearts. This is important to remember.
2.We're also a family that teases.
First, it'll probably be simple stuff, like we've got your nose, or we have no idea what happened to whatever it is that we're hiding behind our backs. But as you get older and we get to know you, we'll tease you on something stupid you did, because you will do something stupid. But we know where the line is drawn. Usually.
3.We're a family that loves Jesus.
We go to church every week, we pray before every meal, and we thank God for all that He has given us. We recognize the blessings we have in our lives and know we wouldn't have anything without him. I'm so excited to watch you grow in your relationship with Christ. Just remember, as you grow and as you have your ups and downs, that He will always be there for you.
4.We are a family of movie references.
Though they mostly consist of Night at the Museum, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Emperors New Groove, and old Disney movies, we quote movies all the time, and we will make you guess what movie it. As your aunt, it is my responsibility to pull out the old VHS tapes and make sure you have a proper education. Oh and by the way, we like movies which also means we consume a lot of popcorn..... especially your mom.
5.We watch baseball.
Every. game (if possible). You will watch baseball. You will be a Royals fan. And because of your grandma, you will know all the players names and positions.Expect to be regularly quizzed. Don't fight it.
6. I'll always be right there whenever you need me ( and even when you don't )
I promise to take an abundant amount of photos of you. I promise to read you books, and help you with homework. I promise to make you lots of mac & cheese. I promise to support you in whatever you decide to participate in, whether that be swim team, little league, or science fairs. I promise to be someone you can talk to when things get hard. I promise to be a cool aunt who will embarrass you in front of your friends, if necessary. I promise to be fun and take your side when your parents are bugging you to clean your room. I promise to spoil you rotten and love you as if you were my own.
7. But most importantly, you are loved by our heavenly father.
Everybody in this family fell in love with you the second we saw you.You have brought people together, and have shown everyone that family is what's most important. I know that you cant even fathom doing all of these things at only 21 days old but, you have and I thank you for that.
We love you. ( and always remember I will always buy you an ice cream cone when you need one)
Love,
Aunt Emmie
