Dear 12 Year Old Me, Don't Grow Up!

Don't grow up, it's a trap.

Dear 12-Year-Old Me,

You’re probably complaining about how you can’t stay out past midnight, or go to that one friend's house. You think the world is ending because you were told no, and you just wish that you were old enough to be on your own. You think growing up will be the best thing to ever happen to you.

HA-HA

You thought wrong. Being an adult is not all that it’s put out to be. Yes, you can go out past midnight now, but hey you have to get up early to go to that class or job. If you don’t get up early and go to that class or job, you will either fail or get fired. They both result in zero dollars for you, which then means you will either have to go back to your parent's house (which honestly does not sound that bad right now, just wait you’ll see.) or you will become a hobo.

Cherish your youth, your home-cooked meals, your resting heart rate, and free place to stay. That will all change in about a decade. Tell mom and dad you love them. You do have a lot more freedom now, but no free time, so go outside and enjoy the endless amount that you have. There is very little of that as a grown up. Now I know why adults needed alcohol every once in a while.

Instead of dreaming of being 18 or 21, live in the moment and realize that one day you will not be able to lie around and do nothing but watch SpongeBob, and that is really sad.

Yes, I am making it seem like being an adult is equivalent to h*ll, but there are many good aspects about it as well. You make mistakes, and yeah mistakes aren’t good but it helps build character, and you grow as a person. You get to do whatever you want, but you actually have to have responsibilities other than feeding your goldfish and cleaning your room.

You start to see the world differently, more clearly. Also, you’d never believe me if I told you who the president is now.

I’m just letting you know to slow down, and not to rush into being a grown up.

College is AMAZING, but that Social Studies class you’re in right now is a piece of cake compared to this Global Pop Culture course.

You have nothing to stress or worry about right now, so please get over that your Webkinz died.

Enjoy life now, and pump the brakes on that whole getting older part.

Love you XOXO,

Future You

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
