2017 may have been a tough year, but good did come out of it as well.

Regardless of whether you support Donald Trump or not, we can still all agree that 2017 was a rough year, from wildfires to mass shootings to hurricanes too many to name among other things, 2017 will be a year to remember. Now before you go writing off this year as a complete tragedy, let’s look at some awesome stuff that has happened over the course of the past year.

1. 80 heroic bystanders formed a human chain to save a drowning family on a Florida beach.

2. A 30-year-old man saved dozens of lives during the deadly shooting at a music festival in Las Vegas.

3. People even banded together and rose well over $7,000 to pay for his medical expenses after the heroic deed.

4. Israeli scientists announced a new treatment for ALS , also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

5. Peggy Whitson broke the US record for the most cumulative days spent in orbit.

6. Chance the Rapper , an unsigned hip-hop artist who released a streaming-only album, won three Grammy awards.

7. Southwest Airlines flew a plane full of puppies to help them escape from Hurricane Harvey. That flight must have been so cute.

8. Democratic and Republican members of Congress from Texas took a road trip to Washington, DC, together when they got stranded by a blizzard.

9. Scientists invented a spray gun that shoots stem cells onto burn victims to regrow their skin without scars. This new tool is ingenuity at its finest.

10. Florida high school students started a club so that no one has to eat lunch alone. What a great way to make new friends.

11. A man sent 40 pounds of cookies to a soldier he'd never met. Yum!

12. A woman donated all the food from her canceled $30,000 wedding to feed the homeless. Talk about making lemonade out of lemons, and a lot of it!

13. A real-life Secret Santa paid for over 8,000 toys on layaway at a New Jersey Toys 'R' Us . Some families got a very merry Christmas this year.

Of course, there are more positive events that have unfolded over the course of 2017. This list is just a small taste of the positivity that still exists in the world today. It can be easy to lose faith in humanity for a variety of reasons. I hope that reading this article will help restore some of that faith. Best wishes to all for a happy and healthy 2018.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
