It’s real easy to say you’re 100% against abortion when you’ll never have to make that decision. That is a quote by an anonymous, but it speaks to each and everyone of us. It's implying that only someone that actually was, is or can be pregnant is fit to make a decision regarding what is best for themselves. And that is exactly why I am pro-choice.
I believe that each woman who would even consider having an abortion has their own reason for it; a reason that is right and makes sense for her. I believe it should not be a legal requirement for a woman to maintain a foetus when it risks her morals, her health and her life. I believe that women should have the right to decide what their bodies are used for, and not live in fear of being considered inferior just because they got pregnant. I believe in human rights, which are naturally also women’s rights. Personal autonomy in one of those, and a constitutional right. Nobody but you should be in charge of your own body. I believe that pregnancy should not be a punishment for sex.
I believe a child should not grow up unwanted, or in poverty, or in hunger, or in danger unnecessarily. I believe that women should not have to result to having illegal abortions with life-threatening risks in alleyways like they had to before they had rights. I believe that those who get to make the decision about such a matter should consider the needs of those whose lives they are playing with rather than their own interests and beliefs only. I believe that religious ideology is no foundation for law. I believe that only those who are qualified should advise pregnant women on what they’re options are. I believe banning abortions only leads to stricter controls on reproductive freedom, which will only further endanger the lives and livelihoods of women. I believe this is not the time to turn back on all the progress we have made. I believe if it’s not your body, it’s not your choice.
