WARNING: This article will have "The Force Awakens" spoilers.
A long time ago (aka April 14, 2017) in a galaxy not-so far, far away, a teaser trailer for "Episode VII" was released on the official Star Wars YouTube page.
Although it made fans very excited, it’s easy to forget about a trailer if it’s not constantly advertised, but recent events have started to rekindle those flames. A behind-the-scenes reel was uploaded on July 15, which gave fans more insight on "The Last Jedi" thus reminding us all that it won’t be long until we’re sitting in the theater with the Millennium Falcon blazing across the screen.
I think it’s safe to say that we can start the countdown to December 15, right?
Although we have a few posters and videos, it’s hard to deduce what this movie holds in store. Even the title itself holds plenty of mystery: “The Last Jedi” could obviously mean Luke Skywalker, but does that mean this movie could be his last, leaving Rey to be “The Last Jedi?”
Obviously, the first movie of this trilogy left us with many questions that we hope to be answered. Is there more to Finn’s past than we know? How did the First Order gain control of the galaxy after the Empire was wiped out? And of course, who are Rey’s parents?
Well, here’s what we can predict so far:
1. Finn and Poe are going to be the best duo in The Resistance.
The Resistance will most likely end up in another sticky situation that will require a complicated mission. Finn and Poe will probably lead it, due to Finn’s knowledge of the First Order and Poe’s expert flying skills. "The Force Awakens" showed a definite bromance between these two characters, so seeing them together again is bound to give us some golden moments.
2. Kylo Ren is going to become a greater threat.
At the end of "The Force Awakens," Supreme Leader Snoke hinted that Kylo Ren needed to complete his training. He showed an impressive amount of skills at the beginning of the movie, but after Rey disrupted everything, it’s obvious he needed more help. I have a feeling that he’ll take us by surprise this time.
3. Rey and Luke are going to have the best Padawan-Jedi master relationship.
Both of these characters have dark pasts and have been alone for years. When you stick both of them on an island, a connection is bound to happen. We can hope that Luke will reveal his side of the story that led him to isolation. Also, he might have some answers for Rey about her abandoned family.
I wouldn't be surprised though if a huge curveball was thrown our way and it will be just as devastating and shocking like the plot twists we saw in "Episode VII."Either way, we can expect "The Last Jedi"to be a huge hit just like "The Force Awakens," especially since we’ve grown to love the new characters, such as Rey, Poe, and Finn.
Of course,"The Last Jedi" will also serve as proof that Star Wars will never be the same again, mainly because two characters from the original trilogy won’t be in it. The first one is Han Solo, whose death was unexpected and heartbreaking, especially for many of our middle-aged fans who grew up on those movies.
Although our favorite scoundrel will be missed, it’ll be even harder to watch General Leia Organa in the movie with the knowledge that Carrie Fisher is dead. Her impact on the Star Wars franchise was phenomenal, and she was the ideal role model for many young girls. She taught us that a princess could also be bad-ass andleft us with the perfect description of what Star Wars is about in the behind-the-scenes video:
“It’s about family, and that’s what’s so powerful about it.”
