Let Go, Be Still, Lean In

Life is on a time crunch. Time goes by fast, memories fade, and we end up living in cycles. These cycles are filled with rushing, and frustrated sighs when we can’t seem to get anything done.

Time. It is one of those things that we never have enough of. But something that God is teaching me is to be still, and just breath. Let go of the deadlines, and the schedules just be still and sit still with Him. One verse in God’s word that often draws me back to this is:

Psalm 46:10

“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

This verse to me speaks of a silent confidence in God to hold our circumstances. It speaks of letting go of the pressure of time and allowing the peace of God to overshadow our hurried hearts. Time is your enemy as a child of God because it pressures worried hearts. It pressures overwhelmed minds.

I am reminded of the song Letting Go by Steffany Gretzinger. That song is about being free to feel timeless with God. It preaches unhurried obedience to seeking and finding a God that often feels far away in respect to our time sensitive lives. Being still is about letting God love us back. It is about pausing during the day to feel the love of God over us. One thing that Christians forget is that God sings over us. Most of the time it is a song that is already on our hearts. If we allow time to dictate our day, then our loud minds won’t hear our soft-spoken God.

Being still is about leaning in to hear God’s voice. When we lean in, we receive love in a way that is often breathtakingly overwhelming. We are no longer overwhelmed by tasks and schedules, but by love. God is about us, and when we are being still, we become about Him. God wants us to want Him just as He wants us. When we behold His beauty, and when we behold His voice, we become beings focused on worshiping the God that we live for. Our hurried hearts turn soft to the Holy Spirit. When we give in to being still, our souls begin to delight in singing “Hallelujah” with a peace and confidence that can only be found in loving Him back. So today let go, be still, and lean in.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
