Don't get me wrong, the 4th of July is a great holiday. There's fireworks that make beautiful designs, parades and cookouts with delicious food and gatherings of family friends. This patriotic celebration needs to happen.
While it should be celebrated, I think everyone should be more considerate of the loud noises that come along with the holidays whether it be fireworks, loud music or whatever someone wants to do. There are people with sensory processing disorders, people with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and animals. I think everyone needs to be more considerate of this. It can be very traumatizing for these individuals and pets.
A lot of individuals especially children with sensory processing disorders cannot handle really loud noises. It causes a sensory overload that can lead to panic attacks and complete meltdowns. They won't sleep well and will wake up in an absolute panic. It can be traumatizing and really shake a small person up.
People with PTSD can have panic attacks, pass out, flashbacks and many other reactions. This is a reason that the festivities of this holiday bothers me a lot. Many veterans have PTSD and this isn't something new. As a result of the loud noises, some of these people are put mentally back in a war that they don't want to go back to. The people who fight and have fought for this freedom you are celebrating are suffering as you celebrate. That's pretty distasteful.
I'm sure everyone hears about how the loud noises affect animals. They run off, whine and become stressed. There are increased rates of pets coming in at shelters and not every owner goes out to find their pet. Pets are part of families too and should be considered.
I'm not saying don't shoot fireworks or enjoy the holiday. I want you to have a good time, but just be considerate of those around you. Check in with the people living around you. Be responsible and put your pets indoors, and if an animal runs into your yard check their tags if they are friendly.
Be considerate of an appropriate bedtime, we all know the fireworks aren't pretty until after dark but midnight is a bit much especially when people have work the next day. Have a safe and considerate Fourth!
