Pictures or no pictures, any book can teach you a life long lesson if you read in between the lines. Some great life influencers derive from the fictional pages of childhood, from Junie B. Jones to Peter Pan. While it may have been years since you last read one of the books on this list, their teachings can still apply to your life today.

1. "Girls can be anything boys can be." –Barbra Park, Junie B. Jones

And they should be paid the same amount for it.

2. "If you give a mouse a cookie, he's going to ask for a glass of milk." –Laura Numeroff, If You Give A Mouse A Cookie

The more you give to someone, the more they will want to take from you. Be cautious of those you get close to, even if they appear to be your friends. Anyone may be willing to take advantage of your kindness if you are not careful.

3. "You have been my friend...that in itself is a tremendous thing." –E.B. White, Charlotte's Web

Friendship, even the most unconventional kind, is one of the best things to hold onto in this world. It is also the best gift you can give to anyone.

4. “The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it.” –J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

If you never go, you'll never know. You have to be in it to win it. Never second guess yourself. Which, ironically, is a pretty mature lesson to learn from someone who refused to grow up.

5. "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." –Dr. Seuss, The Lorax

Never was a truer statement once said. Global Warming. Politics. The current state of the world. This lesson applies to pretty much everything that requires action and change in today's times.

These lessons are eternal and will apply to your life no matter what age. Perhaps if we all took some time to revisit the stories of our younger years, we can make the world a better place.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
