No one said growing up would be easy. Transitioning from our teen years to those of years of young adult is comparable to madly walking around like a decapitated chicken, confusingly trying to take on our new found responsibilities and attempting to make the correct choices that will put us on the most successful path -- even though half the time we have no clue what we're doing. Nonetheless, during this time we learn more and more about ourselves, other people and every day life around us. We're constantly given lessons, trials and obstacles. Each person leads their own individual life with their own specific set of challenges to overcome depending on the path they choose to take. Some people learn lessons that others have not yet encountered. If you have the beneficial knowledge that can help someone else, then I say share it. What lessons has life slammed in your face that you'd like others to keep in mind as they travel their own adventurous lifetime paths? I asked a handful of young adults this question and the following is their responses.
"You can't find love or love another until you love yourself." -- DM
"Appreciate [your] family and [their] support." -- WB
"Your parents always know more than you think they do." -- HC
"Life always goes on. No matter how bad something seems in the moment, it will always get better and there is always a tomorrow." -- DM
"You can't pick your family, but you can pick your friends." -- JD
"Embrace change. It's not always bad." -- BV
"'Out of place is my place'...thus you find your place." -- CH
"Everything ends -- good and bad. Nothing lasts forever." -- JR
"Life is too short to be doing anything that doesn't make you happy." -- IA
"Do not lose sight of priorities and goals for something temporary." -- LT
"Do more. No matter what, you can always do more." -- EP
"Be as selfless as possible. Do things for other people and happiness will come." -- CG
"Life ain't that serious. Get that butt tattoo -- it makes for a good story." --PR
"Don't get mad at things you can't control and just keep calm because everything is OK." -- AH
"Seek first to understand, then to be understood." -- JZ (from Stephen Covey)
"No one really know what they are doing in life and people just act like they do, so others think they are, therefore they are." -- BO
"Never beg anyone to stay in your life." -- JR
"Life's not so hard if you learn how to get out of your own way." -- PR
"Do as much as you possibly can in one lifetime." -- IA
"Put yourself first. No one is (or ever will) experience any of your waking, breathing moments. It's a gift really, how unique we all are and and how we can choose to live each day how we choose. There's no right or wrong way to go through life because if there was we'd all be boring or failing. At the end of the day you're the only one accountable for yourself and you're responsible for creating your own happiness. No one is going to give it to you. So surround yourself with people who make you laugh, stick to your morals, do what you love, love a lot, try new things, be proud of who you are and simply do you boo!" -- JH
Many people say that "young adults think they know everything" and the term arrogance may sometimes be pinned to our generation. However, we like everyone else, make lemonade with the lemons life chucks at our heads and while we may not have as much wisdom as our grandparents or their generation, we definitely know a thing or two about the important things to remember.
