Many people have these realizations that life is too short to be unhappy, but many times these come after a tragedy or a reason for the sudden realization. In order for people to fully grasp the idea that life is too short, they have to go through this huge, tragic, life altering event which is sad and frustrating.
Sadly, my realization came after a tragic accident took someone away from me that was important to not only my past but also my present. This accident made me realize that life is far too short to deal with suffering, frustration, anger and sadness. This made me realize to make the best of every day and every minute, to always say "I love you," and to try and make the best out of every situation in order to be happy.
There are many times where it is easier to hold on to anger and sadness and frustration. Trust me, I know that holding on to all of those emotions is a lot easier than just letting something go and dealing with it and growing from it. But, by holding on to those types of emotions it makes life difficult. It makes it harder to maneuver. And, why would you want to make life difficult when you don't know how long you are going to live?
No one wants to think that tomorrow could be their last day, no one wants to imagine never coming home, but it is a sad reality for so many people that don't deserve it. Many of these people are finally coming to peace with their lives, themselves and finally finding happiness. Do you want one of your last days living to finally be the day you were happy? Or, do you want to wake up and realize that you've lived a happy life so no matter what, you will leave that life happy as well?
Yes, you can be happy.
You can do everything in life that will make you happy.
So please, for the rest of this article just consider it. What is holding you back from your own happiness? Is it not finding or having love? Not being appreciated? Drugs? Alcohol? Anxiety? Depression? Money? What is making you not have the happy life that you want to have?
Put down those pills, that bottle, the wallet and look at what you have around you. Don't look at what you DO NOT have, look at what you DO have.
You have people around you who love you and want to be with you, people who cherish your existence and want you to continue doing exactly that, existing. You have a safe place in which you are able to call home and you have food to eat. You have the sun and the sand and the water and the grass, trees, flowers, birds and butterflies. You have pets and especially dogs (which make everything better). You have someone welcoming you with open arms into their life and their heart. You HAVE reasons to be happy.
You have the love of your life standing in front of you saying they love you back, you have music blaring out of your radio as you drive with your windows down, you have a good book that you've read a million times and you have paint so vibrant you could re-paint the world. You have hobbies and events and people that make you happy, that make you feel whole and not empty, that make you feel high instead of substances to make you feel high.
Look around at what you have in life, appreciate it and never take it for granted. You don't know how long it will last. So go tell that girl you love her, book that trip to France and make sure you hug your mom before you say goodnight. You don't have to live forever, you just have to live.
