Drug use is frowned upon in almost all cultures. Sometimes it's accepted for recreational use. Largely, it is known only to produce negative outcomes and to destroy people and their relationships. However, we must not forget that alcohol is a drug, too. Alcohol, in comparison to marijuana, is more deadly and causes more issues such as: alcohol poisoning, alcoholism, liver failure and more. It's for this reason that I believe marijuana should be legalized, for alcohol's effects seem to be a much greater threat.
Yes, there is danger in smoking marijuana. It does impair judgement and reaction time and is dangerous should you drive under its influence. Basically the same rules that apply to the use of alcohol, and every day interactions, should be applicable to marijuana as well - there's no arguing that. However, alcohol serves as a danger to almost all people who consume it. It's never used as a medical tool to help soothe the pain of patients, whereas marijuana is in some cases.
My point plays mostly to this fact: There is a clear benefit to using marijuana. If this is the case, why not legalize it? It has proven to make Colorado no more dangerous than it was previously, and it has the potential to increase governmental profits, should it be filtered through government-regulated and FDA-approved outlets. Think about it, how many people have you heard of who have died in a drunk driving accident versus an accident caused by someone who was high? It doesn't seem so illogical now, does it?
