Lebron James Is More Than An Athlete, He's Allowed To Have Political Opinions

As of late, athletes have not hesitated to voice their opinions in regard to political issues. This has greatly sparked since Colin Kaepernick started kneeling during the national anthem years ago. His actions/beliefs have shown the media that athletes are more than what meets the eye, they actually care about what’s occurring in the world, as they should.

In a recent interview that ESPN’s Cari Champion had with Lebron James and Kevin Durant, viewers were able to witness Lebron’s stance on Donald Trump.

“And this time now with the President of the United States, it’s at a bad time. And while we cannot change what comes out of that man’s mouth, we can continue to alert the people that watch us, that listen to us, as this is not the way.” - Lebron James

In past years, athletes and majority of the public, have developed a stable relationship with our previous president, Barack Obama. However, now that Trump is in office, public figures rather avoid the “get to know me” conversations with a leader who has done little to nothing to “make America great again”.

It’s hard to take any leader seriously that goes on rants on Twitter - the lack of professionalism is quite absurd.

On February 15th, Fox reporter Laura Ingraham made trash-like remarks targeted towards Lebron James, “shut up and dribble”.

On air, she continued to degrade his accomplishments as an athlete, and made it clear that we can’t take political advice from anyone who “dribbles a ball for a living”. There are reports that reveal that this is not Ingraham’s first time attacking a public figure, but why has it continued? Despite a person’s status or occupation, everyone is entitled to voice their own opinion. Ingraham made it seem as if Lebron, and any other athlete, should stay in the “place”.

But, who is Laura Ingraham to even feel entitled to share those negative remarks? Her demeanor on air, when she discussed Lebron was one that revealed distastefulness. It’s no surprise that Fox news would defend any remarks about Donald Trump, however, it’s inappropriate for any news anchor, to behave in a way Ingraham did.

Laura Ingraham's comment “This is what happens when you attempt to leave high school a year early to join the NBA”, was insulting to Lebron James character because she is trying to define his intelligence by his educational background. When in reality, Lebron did finish high school and did not leave early. As a reporter, it’s important to fact check so maybe Ingraham needs to learn how to do her job better.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
