When Lebron James left for the Miami Heat in 2010, jerseys were burned, kids cried and the general public was outraged that he elected to go to the Miami Heat in free agency, leaving his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers.
Now, the year is 2018, and LeBron will have another big free agent decision looming.
Since coming back to Cleveland, LeBron has made his team a perennial title contender and delivered the championship that he promised Cleveland as well. LeBron does not owe Cleveland any more than what he has already given them.
So, where will he end up?
There is a possibility that LeBron will stay in Cleveland. At this point, it would more be to keep his legacy intact. Since leaving would probably create unrest and more debate about his loyalty, it would be best for his image to stay in Cleveland and continue the hometown story that he started so long ago.
But, LeBron wants championships.
Cleveland has not provided LeBron with the firepower needed to compete with teams like the warriors in recent years, and because of this, Cleveland has failed to get over the hump and win more championships. If LeBron wants championships, he may have to consider moving on to a team with better role players and star power.
While it remains very up to question as to where he would end up to pursue more rings, one place that could make sense is Houston.
Yes, Houston has Chris Paul and James Harden, but without a third superstar, it will be hard for the Rockets to finally beat the Warriors year in and year out. Adding LeBron would be best for them because he knows what it takes to beat Golden State, and he has the potential to come in and add even more veteran leadership to the Rockets.
In LeBron's case, the situation couldn't be any better if he went to Houston. He would be playing with fellow future hall-of-famers, and he would finally get another crack at the Warriors with even more firepower than before.
This could all be a stretch, but when we're talking about the best player in the world, anything is possible.
