My first year of college is officially wrapping up in about a week. It seriously feels like it was just two months ago that my whole family was helping me move in and hugging me goodbye. Fast forward about nine months and here I am preparing for finals and packing up all of my things to return home.

Thinking about returning home for a whole three months after being away for so long definitely is weird. It's like I'm returning home after going on a really long vacation. While it's crazy to think that my first year is just about over and I'm going to be on my way home there are definitely some things I am crazy excited about when it comes to returning home.

1. Getting to drive again

I didn't have my car on campus so I went the entire year without driving. You really don't notice how much you drive or how much you just like to until you're deprived of it. I know that without a doubt I'm going to feel like it's the summer after I've turned 16 and just gotten my license. I cannot wait to get behind the wheel again.

2. Eating any kind of food but dining hall food

After so long of eating the same foods over and over again I'm pretty sure that my taste buds can't really taste anything. I am very over my stomach always feeling like there's a brick in it after I eat at a dining hall. I'm so ready for my mom's spaghetti.

3. Sleeping in my own bed in my own room

Having my very own space again for three months is something I am more than thrilled about. Honestly, just having a whole house to hang out in is something I'm excited about as opposed to just having one room to do everything in.

4. Getting to make money again

My first year here I didn't have a job, which drove me kind of crazy. I'm someone who loves to work and loves to make their own money, so not having a job during the school year made me antsy. I cannot wait to get back home and to work every single day and not be completely broke.

5. Getting to see my dog every single day

I really really missed my dog this past year. I was so jealous of my family members because they still got to cuddle with him every day and I only got a few pictures every once in a while. So, I'm pretty darn excited to get to cuddle with him every single day in the summer.

6. Not thinking about school work for three months

Just knowing that I don't have to write long papers or sit in an hour and a half long lecture for a few months makes my heart swell with happiness.

7. Feeling okay not doing anything

I'm someone who gets kind of stressed when I'm doing nothing and know that I can be working on homework even if it isn't due for another month. During the school year I feel like I constantly need to work on something, and to not feel like that for a few months sounds absolutely beautiful.

8. Hanging out with my parents

I didn't realize how much I liked hanging out with my parents until I didn't have the luxury of seeing them every day. I'm definitely looking forward to going home and just spending time with them.

9. Being able to spend time with everyone I couldn't while I was away

Going away to college has definitely been great, but there definitely are a few downfalls. One of my best friends back at home was still in high school, so we never got to see each other until I was on break, and even then we still weren't always able to find the time to get together. I'm ecstatic to have a whole summer to be able to see everyone I was't able to.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
