My Encounter With Music and The Minds of Others

Learning To Speak Your Mind

Normally I would see something like this and pass it by (blogs not being quiet my thing), but I have always liked to speak my mind. Growing up I was always a soft spoken kid, in a sense you learn a-lot, and see a-lot that others look over when you are like that, but you also tend to get "stepped-on" a lot. As I have grown older and have begun to speak my mind more audibly rather than the occasional casual conversation. I have realized how much my words impact those around me. Kids like me can probably relate, to feeling that no one really cares for what they have to say, heck why should they, I’m just a normal kid, young, and at times naive. I have never claimed to have it all together. I have been terrified in life, struggled with anxiety since I was four, and plan to spend my life giving it all up for the gamble of making it as a musician. The more I have conversations with people the more I realize the unique insight each person offers, everyone with their own backgrounds, and vantage points. I cannot stress to you enough how important it is to speak your mind. You are not asked to do much in life. No one expects you to become wealthy, or a leader in peace, all you are asked to do is speak your mind, and stand up for what is right.

I have the classic glitch that most musicians have, but music provides a platform more powerful than almost anything on earth. You take a group of 3 or 4 people, all of different backgrounds, most of them just as timid as I, and ask them to write something that will change those around them. When these songs are recorded none of the 3 to 4 people think anything of them, but a simple venting of what is on their minds. They can only hope that their words will resonate with the souls of others, and yet whole movements cascade around their lyrics and men and women find strength.

I have found writing to be a platform for me to get thoughts out in front of people, because I often struggle to explain what I am thinking verbally. The only problem is writing is too quiet, it needs to be shouted out, the people need to see the pain, the fear, and the genuineness in your eyes. It is easy to block out an article, but it is impossible to ignore truth when it is knocking on your front door.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
