College is a time to experience and learn more about yourself.

By being exposed to a new group of individuals while maturing, you begin to realize what you like and what you do not like in a significant other. There is no question that when you do find the someone you begin to ~love~ it is a different setting when dating away at college than it is dating back at home.

There are many crucial lessons to keep in mind when beginning a new romance away at school.

Dating while away at school opens up a great amount of time spent together. When dating at home, you might not see that person everyday because you have to drive to their house everyday and so forth. In college you're just steps away.

It might become easy to spend a little too much time and forget about studying, friends and alone time.

In order to stay on top of your work and remain a rockstar student, be sure to wake up every day recognizing what needs to get done. As for someone who is currently in a relationship in college, I make sure that I do not see my boyfriend until all of my work is complete. Once I finish hitting the books in the library for several hours, meeting with teachers and much more, I always make a point for grab a late dinner or watch TV to rewind after a long day.

By prioritizing your work as No. 1, you also make sure that your friends do not feel pushed aside. It is typical to watch your college friends drift away because of a boy. Never be that girl. Whether or not he becomes the one, friends are key. Do not let them slip away. Spend time with them eating, laughing and going out.

In the end, they are the ones who have your back no matter what and do not wait until the friendship is gone to realize that.

Also, never let your significant other take you away from doing what you love. One should never be taken away from their study time because their loved one just wants to "hang out." Make sure that you focus on what is important now and in the long run.

Making time for yourself in college is one of the most important aspects. Every day, I take time to workout and that is when I collect my thoughts for the day and recognize what I need to do and what I need to change. It allows me to grow. Without alone time, you become trapped and controlled.

Remember that you are your own boss and never let anyone change that.

In the end, it is easy to let your boyfriend be a distraction, but only if you let it. You are young and you only love like a teenager once so make the most of it and do it right. Find someone who makes your reality better than your dreams and allows you to push yourself to do your best in and out of school. Also, make sure that you keep your friends by your side, as it would be sad to watch them drift away over a boy.

Be simple, be balanced, be happy.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
