Being a Junior myself, I'm used to the back to school routine. It mostly consists of menial things like finding classrooms and reading the syllabus, but there are a few things that you don't expect to learn from the first few days of the new semester.
1. Memorize the bus schedule.
Whether you're a freshman or there's a new bus schedule, you bet you'll be checking your phone for the bus stops. You can't make it around campus without it! You could bike or skateboard, and that works too, but most likely you'll be filing in line onto the next poorly air-conditioned public transportation vehicle you can get to. Be sure to be on the right one at the right time!
2. Put the fall clothes back in your closet.
You want to look cute; I do too, but giant sweat stains on your brand new cardigan are not cute. You're excited for the cool weather, the flannel and sweaters, the warm drinks, and all of the beautiful trees. Unfortunately, it's still summer. It isn't all bad, though. There are still plenty of cute summer outfits you can wear while you still can.
3. Skim.
Skimming is a vital skill in college, and what better way to practice than needing to read practically the same syllabus for every class you have. There is important information in there, so don't just skip everything, but after the first few you tend to get the idea of the grading scale and dress code. Just get the main bits of information specific to that class, and read through it if you have a syllabus quiz. Otherwise, you get the idea.
4. Buy lots of printing ink and paper.
Will you be frustrated with everything that you were told to print that you really didn't need? Yes. Will you have spent valuable money you could have spent at Chipotle? Absolutely. Sometimes, however, you need to print something important. You need to prepare for those times or else you'll be frantically trying to print your English paper just a few minutes before class starts. Keeping as many documents as possible on your laptop should help, but be prepared to kill a lot of trees.
5. Find good deals on food.
In speaking of spending money, you have got to find good deals on campus food. Some options may be more expensive than others, and you don't want to overspend on food that isn't even that great anyway. Feel free to experiment with different dining areas to find ones that you like, but don't spend too much, my broke little college student!
These are some things that I definitely picked up my first week at school. You live and you learn, just be sure to learn quick! What have you learned so far? Did you learn some of these things the hard way, or were you well prepared? Good luck, and have a wonderful semester.
