"I lead her to the bed, throw the comforter aside, and sit down as she stands before me in her mask and corset.
She looks sensational.
I grab a pillow and place it beside me. Taking her hand, I tug so that she falls across my lap, her chest on the pillow. I sweep her hair off her face and the mask.
There.
She looks glorious." (Darker, 171)
This is one of the many captivating scenes within the "Fifty Shades of Grey" trilogy. Christian Grey, a multimillionaire, and a sadist meets Anastasia Steele by chance when Ana takes the place of her best friend, Katherina Kavanah, who has the flu, to go interview the elusive Mr. Grey.
The day that Ana tripped into Christian's office is a day that neither of them will ever forget. That day ultimately changes their lives for the better. Within a matter of months, Ana and Christian have fallen in love and Christian has lost his hunger for the normal Dom/Sub relationship. He is ready for plain vanilla with Ana. His first true relationship will end up to be his last.
“But I'm a selfish man. I've wanted you since you fell into my office.
You are exquisite, honest, warm, strong, witty, beguilingly innocent; the list is endless. I'm in awe of you. I want you, and the thought of anyone else having you is like a knife twisting in my dark soul.” E.L. James, Fifty Shades Darker
Ana tried a relationship Christian's way, but that suddenly came to a halt when she finally reached her limit. She wanted to know how bad things could get in the 'Red Room'. Christian let her know by whipping her butt with a belt six times. He had her count out each smack as the belt cracked across her behind. She allowed all six hits to happen before she finally lost it. "You are fucked up son of a bitch." (Fifty Shades of Grey)
When I first read "Fifty Shades of Grey," it was my first time reading an erotic novel and I was not entirely sure what they were supposed to entail. Honestly, I fell in love with it. With the storyline, the characters, the vehicles, all of it. I became entranced with a life that I wish that I had. Watching Ana and Christian fall in love with each other, watching them evolve into who they truly were, it was mesmerizing, to say the least.
"I'm close enough to smell her. I shut my eyes and take a deep breath. When I open them, the telltale flush of desire stains her cheeks.
And it's there between us.
That familiar pull.
Our intense attraction.
I want you, Anastasia," I whisper. "I love and hate, and I love arguing with you, It's very new, I need to know that we're okay. It's the only way I know how." (Darker, 135/136)
((Christian is in love/attracted to the way that Ana smells.))
Now that the trilogy is over, which I hope the EL James does at least one more book to show us how the Grey's are as a family when their children are older, EL James has started to publish these same books, but in Christian's point of view. To be able to read into how both main characters are feeling, what they remember from the past, makes me fall in love with the story and characters even more. I am captivated and completely under this story's spell. The way that Christian talks about Ana, how he sees her...it is enough to make most women, even men, squirm.
"I open the submissive's room door and stop.
A startled Ana whirls around to face me. She's dressed in a black corset, tiny lace panties, and thigh-highs.
All thought is erased from my mind.
My mouth dries as I stare.
She's a walking wet dream.
She's Aphrodite." (Darker, 151)
Christian compare's Ana to Aphrodite a few times throughout this series. He isalso calling her gorgeous and telling her that she is beautiful, a goddess even. He truly only has eyes for her, even if there is a room full of women lusting after him. She makes is world spin. He makes her world spin. Together, they are one.
