You know those thoughts, the ones that run rampant through your mind while you're staring at your ceiling at 2 a.m. The ones that create a string of deep, penetrating thoughts that you could only think up while in a day dream. Perhaps the most prevalent of these thoughts revolves around how the universe works. Questions like Why? How? For what reason? become more than just questions and soon you reach a state of mind that you never knew you could reach before. Perhaps you aren't asking questions, but rather replaying details of the past day/week/year that you didn't even realize you noticed. Maybe your mind reminds you of something good that you shouldn't let go: a person, an event, or a feeling. At this moment, our hearts and our minds fall together in harmony.
During the day, the mind is supposed to take precedent over the heart. But in the dead of the night when all is silent and everything is still, our hearts begin to work with our minds to draw us away from reality and place us into a stream of thought that brings what we love and enjoy into the light. Perhaps we do not have to give up following ours hearts to remain in the reality of everyday life. It just may be that our hearts are trying to get us to listen but the noise of the day isn't letting us. So maybe in the early hours when our lives slow down and our minds wanders, maybe, just maybe, it's our hearts that are doing the talking.
