I recently read an article entitled, "Ladies, Nike Shorts And Leggings Are For The Gym, Nowhere Else." Opinions are like buttholes, everyone has one and usually, they stink. Well, here's mine. Hopefully you don't think it stinks, but honestly, I don't care if you do or not.
We don't all have it figured out. We don't all have an hour-long bedtime routine. Some of us are up worrying about studying and reading and gaining knowledge at the library at all hours of the night so that we can get an education. We don't all get a perfect eight hours of sleep and get up to workout. Sometimes, life just doesn't work that way. If it does for you, awesome, you have better time management skills than I do when it comes to getting to bed on time.
However, this does not attest to the amount of knowledge I gain at college. This does not attest to the determination and effort I put into getting good grades and to attending classes. My bedtime routine does not include a face mask, does not include picking out a perfect outfit and two backup outfits. Do you know what else doesn't attest to the amount of knowledge I gain in class? What I wear to class.
I will show up to class in whatever I please. Whether it be leggings, an old Nike tee shirt from four summers ago, or running shorts. Some ladies are student athletes and don't have time to look your definition of "nice" on a daily basis. I personally start at 8:30 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and don't get done until 6:00 in the evening due to marching band practice. I have 40 minutes to get between campuses to go to practice from class. I am not going to wear jeans in upwards of 85-degree weather just so I have to rush to change before band practice. And even if I didn't have band, I wouldn't wanna wear jeans to class anyway because THEY'RE JUST NOT COMFORTABLE, YA DIG?
Presenting yourself is important, I get it. If you feel like you have to look your definition of "nice" every day, be my guest. You go girl. But some of us (like me) enjoy wearing comfortable clothes to class. I'm just saying, the girl in the Nike shorts probably has a good grade because she comes to class comfortable and ready to learn. I couldn't be comfortable sitting at a desk for an hour and a half with some monkey suit on trying to listen. I will dress nicely at job interviews, at presentations, and at other important career-altering events. Otherwise, I will wear what I deem comfortable and easy to move in.
Class is a learning environment, not an environment that you have to be on edge and always trying to impress people. That girl beside you in the baggy tee shirt probably made the same test score as you because, if you really think about it, fashion doesn't determine intelligence. It's just class. Get over it. And even so, who are you to judge what other people wear? Like I said before, fashion doesn't determine intelligence. We're all here to get that degree, so lose the negativity.
Yes, I will be wearing my slides and leggings to class. I hope you can forgive me (sorry, not sorry).
