Odyssey: Why The Lack Of LGBTQ+ Posts?

It's Pride Month... let the gay reign…

I get it … Odyssey isn't exactly a site you would go to looking for LGBTQ articles. Instead, it's filled with Listicles, GIFs, and Grey's Anatomy memes-- which let me say, I'm not hating on it… it's just annoying that these are the articles that this organization highlights on their social media pages and website.

I just want more diversity on this site.

Being Pride Month, I expected to there be at least 1 or 2 posts highlighted on Odyssey's website, or even reposted on their social media pages. But nope, I scrolled for about 10 minutes and saw one post remotely related to the LGBTQ community. What I saw instead where very hetero, very, dare I say, white posts, aimed at women. So the general demographic: straight, white (probably Christian) women. Which honestly, kind of creeps me out.

Could Odyssey not even make a small acknowledgement that it was Pride Month? Say "Hey, we stand with and support the LGBTQ community! Happy Pride Month!"

Want to know what they did acknowledge though? National Donut Day-- June 1st, the first day of Pride Month. Like, listen, I love donuts, but not enough to completely ignore a community that has been battling for human rights for an unnecessary amount of time.

And no one better argue that "Oh, well they didn't highlight Pride Month/LGBTQ people because no one wrote an article about it", because listen, simply looking up in the search bar on the Odyssey website, anything LGBTQ related, there are a handful of articles-- articles that even fit with what Odyssey usually highlights on their social media (like songs to add to your playlists, Netflix recommendations, etc.). But none of these articles were highlighted this month.

So please @ Odyssey, share some LGBTQ posts.

Share articles/GIFs/polls, whatever, involving the LGBTQ community. Organizations like yours adds to the repression that not only this community, but other minority groups face. Stop promoting this agenda aimed at white, straight, Christian girls. Literally, who cares whether a certain flower describes a college major? What this community and your audience cares about is highlighting groups that need to be highlighted, whose stories need to be shared.

How else are we supposed to end this repression of voices on minority groups if you are doing nothing to stop this repression.

So @ me, fight me, change my mind, whatever. I literally don't care. Unless you're promoting Pride Month, or any other minority group (in a positive way, no one needs any negativity right now) I won't care about what you're saying.

And @Odyssey, if you could please start highlighting some LGBTQ articles/ at least acknowledging Pride Month, that would be great.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
