Kygo’s star continues to rise on today’s electronic dance music scene. And with his debut album “Cloud 9”, he kicks things into overdrive with impressive productions and an equally impressive roster of guest appearances. From R&B star John Legend to electronica diva Foxes, the tropical house artist collaborates with a wide range of top-notch music talent to crank out some uplifting and inspired musical gems.
“Stole the Show” glides along smoothly with its melodic Balaeric vibes topped off by powerful vocals from emerging American singer-songwriter Parson James. “Fiction” goes into club-friendly four-on-the-floor territory as British singer-songwriter Tom Odell yearns “I can’t take a fictional you” over Kygo’s tropical grooves. Continuing with the island feel, Irish rock band Kodaline mashes their sound up with Kygo’s on “Raging” - which happens to feature British singer-guitarist James Bay on writing credits. John Legend and Foxes add more uplifting vocal harmonies that sweetly soar over Kygo’s unique brand of tropical house on “Happy Birthday” and “Oasis”, respectively. The album adds some tinges of jazz in the downtempo electronica of “Serious” while simultaneously showcasing the soulful vocals of Australian folk/blues singer Matt Corby.
Although not the founder of tropical house, Kygo has certainly played a principal role in the perfection and popularity of the genre. With “Cloud Nine”, he gets to showcase exactly that with a number of singers whose varying vocal styles mesh nicely his tight musical productions. No wonder the album has the title that it does.https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/cloud-nine/id109...
