Norway’s Kygo continues his newly minted tradition of bringing in top-notch talent out of the pop music space into his electronic dance music productions. From established superstars such as John Legend to emerging artists like Conrad Sewell, the formula is working with amazing results. Kygo’s 2017 venture “It Ain’t Me” brings in American singer-actress and radio princess Selena Gomez - who herself has shown a liking to shacking up with big-time EDM DJ/producers. Look back not too long ago to her collab with Russian-German DJ/producer Zedd on the “I Want You to Know” club banger from 2015.
Gomez delivers solid, bitter break-up lyrics with diva sass and upfront confidence on “It Ain’t Me” as Kygo’s signature tropical house music backs her up. The lyrical story line is a feisty one that plays out nicely over the EDM light powered by the Norwegian EDM producer. “No, I don't wanna know where you been or where you're goin'...but I know I won't be home
and you'll be on your own,“ she belts out while Kygo’s melodic, dreamy sounds complement her catchy vocal stylings. Although based in spacey electronica and dance grooves, “It Ain’t Me” is one of those EDM tracks that could also even fit within the adult contemporary radio realm due to its downtempo vibe.
Pop singers and electronica DJs continue to form warm and fuzzy relationships with success on FM radio and the club music scene too. There’s a win-win situation for both parties. Kygo and Gomez are among the latest pair to pull off yet another one with their “It Aint Me” single.
