For every college student, having roommates is a rite of passage. Whether it be one roommate or five, anyone who has had a roommate becomes a changed person after living with others for a year or more.
You can sleep through anything.
Everyone in college has crazy sleeping schedules, and sharing a room with other people makes it even worse. If your roommate has an 8 a.m. or spends the night out, you might as well have too. After a while of living with roommates, though, you learn that you can make yourself sleep through anything.
You're constantly living with FOMO.
When you're constantly coexisting with other people, being all by yourself can leave you feeling like you're missing out. Even if all your friends are at class, studying, or doing something else that sounds uninteresting, you still miss them when they're gone.
Chores are a controversial subject.
You're not one hundred percent sure who was the last of you to take out the trash, so you just assume it was you. Bonus points if you've ever attempted to make a chore chart.
You don't think any conversation topic is off limits.
Constantly being around other people means that they'll know anything and everything about you. Since privacy doesn't exist, that means that you feel comfortable talking about anything.
As much as you look forward to having your own room, you know you'll miss having roommates.
Having roommates is like being a part of a constant slumber party. Even though it eventually has to end, you enjoy it while you can. Your roommates are there for you as you transition from living at home to being on your own. Over time, they become some of your best friends and a huge part of your college experience.
