On October 11th, 2017, the University of Central Florida hosted their second annual Knights Got Talent. A new tradition that started last year, Knights Got Talent has been taking the school by storm. As a chance to show off their skills, despite the majors they chose, these contestants were able to continue embracing their passions.
The night started off with a singing performance by Miss Ethiana Santander. She did a beautiful rendition of by These from New York, New York Frank Sinatra. Following her performance was soccer freestylist, Bruno Kallas. Returning for a second time, he learned some new tricks and practiced a few old ones to get ready for this year. Next up was Kylene McCullough, a sophomore at UCF who performed her own original song. After hearing such a beautiful voice, you can check out her youtube channel, Kylene M. Fourth to go was Brannon Cloy. He is an advertising major at UCF and sang one of his original songs as well. His new EP, Looking for Love, is coming out very soon. Finishing out the first half was Bryant Lu, a sophomore with fantastic piano skills. The crowd was amazed by his talent for the keys. A very melodic and engaging toon, it was a great way to finish out the first half.
After intermissions and having a little Q&A panel with the homecoming court, the show started once again with freshman, Ayaka Ito. She sang a beautiful Japanese song, as she was more comfortable with her native language. I was honestly blown away by her stage presence as such a young age in college. Following her was guitarist, Ian Hughes. Claiming to have started learning guitar to pick up girls in high school, this young man's skills were unmatched. As he played, there was a montage of vast scenery from various locations. The music played seamlessly along, which made his performance stand out more.
Lined up as number eight was graduate student, Auree Postal. He did something i wouldn't have expected to see froths talent show, which was playing his drums. (A snare drum in particular.) I was blown away by his beats and his lightship towards the end. Coming from the marching band world, I personally loved his performance.
Following the drummer was step dancer, Jair Jackson. Jair was the winner of Rosen's got talent and decided to share his skills with the UCF main campus. The dance itself was very unique and interesting. I was familiar with step dancing before, but this brought it to a whole new level. Mixed in with poetry, his performance was a spectacle to see.
Finally, rounding out the night was Misha Chavez-Schmid & Megan Fuhrman. They performed a duet mashup of Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes and Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics. The whole piece was great. When they started with Seven Nation Army, I thought it was going to be good, but one they added Sweet Dreams, it got a thousand times better. Both songs blended together very well and they looked like they had a blast performing.
In the end, Ayaka Ito won fan favorite. Misha Chavez-Schmid & Megan Fuhrman won first place followed by Auree Postal as second, and Jair Jackson as third. It was a great night for all the performers and a good chance for the UCF students to witness what their peers could do. I can't wait until next year. Keep it up UCF Homecoming.
