Every year, you hear everyone talk about every little thing they hated about the past year. This person broke up with me, this happened and that. But why do we always focus on all the bad things that happened within the past year? While it's a great thing to kiss the past year goodbye and look forward to another new year and a fresh start, it's hard for you to do that when your head is filled with such negativity.
While I can't say I haven't done it before, it's very easy to get wrapped up in the phenomenon that is looking back on everything that changed us in the past year. But what I have learned over the past is that we shouldn't be focusing on all the negatives that changed us, but the things that have changed us for the better. If you end the past year on a bad foot, it's going to be quite difficult to enter the new year on a positive one.
Instead of focusing on the break up that broke your heart, or the failed dating attempts, look towards the new year as an opportunity to find your love. Or make it the year you find yourself, don't focus on dating but focus on figuring out who you are as a person. Instead of thinking about how awful you did in your classes the past semester, make it a learning experience and say you did your absolute best and are ready to take on the next semester with a strong head on your shoulders.
The new year shouldn't be focusing on all the wrong of the past. It should be an outlet for you to have a new beginning, the world is at your fingertips and only you can make the new year a great one. You are in control of your life, nobody else.
So make those new years resolutions, and stick to them. Take on the new year full force. Do things you never thought you'd do before. Make new friends and travel to new places near and far. Do the unthinkable and step out of your comfort zone. Don't let this year be another repeat of the last. Be the change you wish to see in the world.
