A year ago there was a county clerk who started up a major controversy about same-sex marriage. Kim Davis was just dismissed on all of her charges from some of the couples who sued her for refusing to hand out the marriage licenses due to her religious beliefs.
I say that is a load of bull.
She violated a rule that we have held in our government for ages and now we are just letting her slide on that? The US government is the separation of Church and State. So tell me how her not issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, which violates her religious beliefs, is not a hypocritical issue with the US government. We say that we are "separated" from our religious beliefs when individuals work for the government but when it is a controversy such as abortions and same-sex marriage then it becomes a whole religious issue and then Church and State end up becoming a huge gray area.
What Kim Davis is wrong, horribly and utterly wrong. She did not remain impartial to her beliefs when she was handing out those licenses, like how a government official is supposed to act in these situations. But no, she claimed it was a violation of her rights when she was denying the rights of others as well. That is what the problem is when it comes to deciding laws. If we give in to one side the other side feels like their rights have been violated.
The fact that religious backing for specific arguments such as birth control, abortions, and same-sex marriage is an exact violation of the separation of Church and State. I would love to see someone give me one non-religious reason for being not in favor of those topics. There is barely any real evidence for someone to use because they are severely outdated.
Kim Davis had no right to deny other people of their civil rights. That is basically stating that people like her think of others as inferior because they are different than them. That causes other people to think that they actually are inferior to other people. What kind of society are we if we do not allow people to be who they are and are intolerant of others when our own society was built as a safe haven for those being persecuted? I say that is very hypocritical of us to be the intolerant when we created our society to be equals.
Kim Davis has sparked something inside of me that I want to fight, intolerance. This country has hundreds of campaigns for Black Lives Matter, when All Lives Matter. We have campaigns against illegal immigrants taking American jobs, when we outsource our factory jobs to other countries. We say we have equal rights when we have people fighting to feel safe in their own communities.
We need to be the new generation of peace, because we won't solve it in other countries if we can't even have peace in our country.
