A couple of "Spring Break Resolutions" you haven't considered

Spring Break, especially in college, is known for consisting of wild, rowdy days on the beach. However, that isn't always the case; now whether that isn't your scene or you just couldn't make it this year, there are quite a few of us who get to enjoy Spring Break from home. Time with your family is great, but sometimes things interrupt that (jobs, siblings' school, etc.). So, here are a couple of things you can do if you find yourself drowning in boredom at home.

Pick up a new hobby.

Over Christmas Break, I taught myself how to knit; now I have something productive I can do while binge-ing Netflix. Maybe you want to learn something new like how to slackline, hand-letter, or longboard, or maybe you want to catch up on your mildly-developed skating or guitar playing skills. Whatever you decide to pick up as your "Spring Break Resolution," make sure you keep doing it. You don't want to have wasted a whole week of your life learning something you'll never do again (or maybe you do, I don't know).

Go to a local park (or road trip to a distant park).

Parks don't always get the credit they deserve. Parks are a beautiful way to get outdoors, and they often serve various purposes. Some parks are for observing, some are for hiking, some are for skating, and some are for ball sports. There is pretty much a park for every kind of person. Also, if you haven't enjoyed the joy of swinging since your childhood, it's just as good as you remember!

Read a non-school book.

Read something that won't stress you out and remind you of deadlines! Read that book you bought in a Christmas sale that's just been collecting dust, or the book your parents gave you for your birthday. Read the Harry Potter Series like you've been saying you would read since you were ten. Re-read World War Z for the fourth time (GUILTY).

Play some card games.

I don't know why solitaire gets such a bad rap; it's easy to play, set-up, pause, and clean-up. It's also pretty cool to be able to show your friends your insane shuffling skills. Learn some games you can share with your friends once you get back to school. UNO is a rediscovered favorite in my friend group.

Binge watch Netflix.

Who am I kidding? Netflix is an unavoidable quality of the modern Spring Break. And why shouldn't it be? You really don't have time to netflix during the school year, and you've been trying to finish Friends since January.

Whatever you decide to do for Spring Break, enjoy yourself. Be able to tell your friends that you had an amazing break even without going bungee jumping. Maybe Spring Break will be the time you learn a life-long skill/hobby that isn't analyzing functions in Calculus.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
