The one thing everyone wants to know after they hear a couple is celebrating a milestone anniversary is, "What's your secret?"
Good relationship advice can be hard to come by these days. In an age of social media and instant gratification, young couples often feel that if they aren't constantly posting with their beau, it isn't the real thing. In this day and age, if you're looking for some relationship advice to get through a rocky time it seems best to go back to basics. So, with that in mind, what is the secret to a happy and healthy relationship?
Laughter.
After seeing a happy couple celebrate their twenty-ninth year of wedded bliss, I found it necessary to ask that question of how they have made it so far with life constantly testing them. The best advice they had to offer was to laugh everyday. Laugh about any and everything. Something small they both witnessed at the grocery store or telling a funny story from work to each other. If it was a particularly unfunny day, then maybe just say something you know will get a little chuckle out of your significant other. Even a smile is better than nothing.
Of course the normal advice such as "never go to bed angry" and "the little things are important" are still good bits to keep in mind. But if you can laugh with your love, even in the face of difficulty, then who's to say that any mountain or molehill can not be climbed without laughter?
There will always be bad days and couples will always go through tough times, but if they can find something to laugh at, to truly enjoy a moment together of pure and interrupted bliss, then nothing will be able to beat them down enough to split. If a couple of twenty-nine years swears by it, then it is definitely worth a shot.
If laughter really is the best medicine then why would it not be the secret to a happy and healthy relationship? So go on, make your boo thing laugh!
