There's Nothing More Important Than Keeping Your Happiness In Check During Finals

It's true, mental health breaks during exam szn can be something other than crying.

Finals are around the corner (although exam season never really does seem to end). It's one of the most stressful times because you're wanting to soak up the last bit of your year. While trying to balance your three final papers, four exams and six mental breakdowns scheduled during the last two weeks.

Grades are important, but I've come to realize no exam grade is worth neglecting my well being. Here are a few of my favorite things to do remind me what ~happiness~ is during finals season.

1. Highlights from sports this past year

From football to men's and women's basketball/hockey/swim and beyond, Michigan killed it. Even if you're not a huge sports fan, the hype videos and highlights are so heartwarming to watch. For an extra kick, I like looking through old Michigan State's tweets mocking us about waiting till basketball season. Cya.

2. Walk in the arb

Talk about an endless supply of dogs to pet. Especially on days where the sun is shining down through the trees, there are not many places on campus that compare.

3. Cherry Republic

If you've never been, you're missing out. They have fresh and packaged produce from northern Michigan, from candy to salsa to pop and beyond- all with a cherry base. The best part? So. Many. Free. Samples.

4. Hammock in the diag

Even if it's a little chilly, bring a blanket, headphones and set your hammock up in the trees. It's also a great people watching spot.

5. Switch up your studying spot

If you really feel like you have no time for anything besides studying, at least switch it up a little. I always find myself in the stacks cubicle, so once in a while, I try to go somewhere a little more open (and a lot less lonely).

6. FaceTime your pet

I might be a huge animal girl, but I swear, seeing your pet's face can cheer up anybody. After all, they don't care if you got a 42% on your Orgo exam.

7. Look through old pictures

It's a good way to actually let your brain rest, and sometimes you'll stumble upon a memory that'll really cheer you up.

8. Listen to a 'discover' or 'mood' playlist

If you have Spotify, I definitely recommend using the mood/ discover pages. The little FBI agent in there knows exactly what you're into, and finding new favorite songs is a mood booster.

9. Treat yourself to a new restaurant

We all have our favorites, especially in Ann Arbor where the food options are endless.. But you could be missing out on some of the best places (yes, I do mean going beyond South U). Aka food truck season is around the corner and some ~deliver~.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
