A lot of New Year resolutions is to be healthier and that is understandable its the beginning of the semester and you are already ready for summer. Beach body here we come! It is not that easy to stay in shape during the semester especially with all the stress eating and lack of sleep.

There are things that can help kick-start your semester of fitness. Some which can become easy habit some can be a quite difficult to pick up.

1. Eat breakfast

Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day. It is not a good idea to skip it because it can help you power through those morning classes. Sometimes a big meal can mean toast and eggs, fruit, cereal, or a granola bar. Something that will get your day started.

2. Walk to classes

For those who live on campus, they know what is it like to walk to classes. Some commuters do as well. By walking to class you can do a lot. It helps save gas if you are a commuter, depending on when you leave your car or dorm you can get to class as early or late as you want, early to class is the best. But walking is a great way to get in shape.

3. Water instead of soda

Soda has so much sugar in it and is really bad for the body. Coke is a dangerous product, it can be used to clean and more but yet we still drink it. Due to the fact that it tastes good. Water can be very versatile in taste.

You can take water and make it to a flavor you want to drink, like lemon water, strawberry kiwi, orange and mint, and the list can go on.

4. Go to a workout class

Workout classes are great because it doesn't necessarily mean weight training. It could be an ab workout, legs, arms, etc. There are many fun classes that Stephenson Hall offers.

They usually have a schedule of all the classes going on for each semester.

5. Go to the gym

Typical phrase used. It really does help. You can go your own pace and do as many reps and sets as you want with however much weight that you can handle.

Just don't overdo it because too much weight can hurt you. Max out and find your limit.

6. Have a workout calendar

This will help you track your workouts and see when you have a rest day or what you will be doing next to mentally prepare yourself. Use it keep track of how much weight, sets, and reps you did.

It can also help track things you eat and drink so you can keep track on that as well.

7. Try yoga

Yoga is good way to gain flexibility, balance, and stability. It is really fun and a good experience. There are some really good yoga classes around town. Find one that you think you will like and try going.

There a bunch of poses you will learn and some yoga classes offer fun classes that include more than yoga. It might include mediation and such. Yoga is just a great way to relax because it is easy to fall asleep in class.

8. Cut out junk food

This is hard for college students especially being surrounded by so many fast food restaurants. Always so tempting but way to stay away from. Going every now and then would be okay but every day is not really healthy.

A good way to help cut junk food would be by packing your own meals and stalking up on fruits and veggies. You can make smoothies, salads, soups, and meals out of a few veggies and meats.

This will also help decrease your sugar intake.

9. Get on a sleep schedule

This a very important thing because sleep one of the basic things humans need. This allows the brain to do its job, allows you to rest, and lets be body regain energy for the next day.

Sleep schedules are good to start because they are really helpful to the body and they can help you start a good morning routine so maybe you can get a good breakfast in with some fruits and yogurt.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
