As an 18-year-old woman, I don't have many philosophies that I stand by consistently but there is one that has held true for most of my life. Being a young adult is accompanied by stress and frustrations including school, education, and relationships. Everyone needs an outlet to stress and while some choose to exercise or write to relieve the hardships, my method is a bit unique. I full heartedly believe in the healing power of Katy Perry.

The singer's upbeat tunes have the power to heal broken hearts. I can't count the number of times I got into fights with my first boyfriend. We were young and dumb and so were the fights but that doesn't mean they didn't hurt like hell every time. I would curl up into a ball in my room crying and feeling so pitiful.

There was only one thing that could mend my little heart and that was putting on Katy Perry's "California Girls" and dancing all the sadness and pain out. When me and my first love broke up I sat in my car, my heart in tatters and the only thing that could relieve the ache is "The One That Got Away." The glass shards in my heart started to ease and the lyrics seemed to dry my tears as my loud, off key singing healed my wounds.

Katy Perry can relieve the unavoidable stress of life and more. Especially as a young adult, there's always something to being worried whether its social aspects or educational there is always a figurative cloud over our heads. In my case, I am constantly worried about funding my college education and getting along with my roommate and I have not even started my classes right now.

Some days I can feel like my world is falling down around me and I can't do anything to stop the chaos. At those times I walk over to my stereo, put on “Firework” and dance my uncoordinated butt off. I use all of my embarrassing dance moves including, The Sprinkler, The Shopping Cart, and my personal favorite The Lawnmower.

The healing power of this pop icon is difficult to ignore. Her music has reached millions and uplifted their spirits. Even as an adult I still whole-heartedly believe in playing her music at full volume. This belief can be transferred to any singer/band that fuse their music with good vibes. At this age, young adults are faced with impossible stress and we need a release. Just by dancing and singing along with her songs I feel my mood improve and the stress of daily life melt away.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
