What Sisterhood Means To Kappa Delta, Eta Alpha

For the sororities at Texas A&M University, it is the week before everyone's favorite time of the year, formal recruitment week.

In this week before recruitment, most of the women's greek life is spending their long days preparing & prepping for the exciting week ahead. Although this week has just started for us, spending the entire day surrounded by my Kappa Delta sisters and learning more about my sorority has only made me love Kappa Delta even more, and I can say with confidence that my KD sisters feel the same way.

I chose to write this article as a tribute to the Eta Alpha chapter of Kappa Delta. I have asked my KD sisters to answer a few heartfelt questions, to remind you just how amazing Kappa Delta is to us. I hope you feel the same way after reading.

Q: What was your first impression of Kappa Delta?

A: "I would say my first impression of Kappa Delta was defiantly a welcoming environment. Whenever I walked into the house during rush week last year, I instantly felt loved, encouraged, and like I could I be my genuine self.

I felt like I could finally let my guard down after a long day of visiting other places where I didn't feel as comfortable.

I knew right away that this was where I wanted to be at the end of the week, and these were the young women I wanted to be able to call my sisters." - Claire Lindemann

Q: What is your favorite part about Kappa Delta?

A: "My favorite part of being a part of Kappa Delta is the girls who make it up.

I love how I can constantly be my true self and never feel judged.

Kappa Delta has brought me my best friends and I have no idea what I would've done without their friendship and support throughout my freshman year.

I know the girls Kappa Delta has brought me will be in my life through thick & thin." - Jenna Shaw

Q: Do you have any advice for girls trying to find their home this week?

A: "I would really just say to be open to anything throughout the week, and try your absolute hardest to go into this situation with a very open mind. If you go into the week with one specific house in mind, you are often setting yourself up for disappointment.

This week is just about you and finding where you fit in. Keep in mind that the house you end up in is the place and people that you are going to be surrounding yourself with for the next four years of your life. Really try your hardest not to care about what your friends, or other girls around you think about the houses you are loving.

Like I said previously, this week is about YOU, and this choice will follow you throughout your college career and possibly life.

Also, look around your tent once pref night gets closer and think about if these are the type of young women you want to be around. That was something that really helped me make my final choice about becoming a part of Kappa Delta." - Caitlyn Baker

Recruitment week is hard, but with Kappa Delta, I genuinely look forward to stepping through those huge doors every day.

As you can see, Kappa Delta feels like a home to all of us.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
