Okay so if you are a die-hard Kansas State fan or even just a fan at all you know what it is like to be a fan of the team during March Madness. Some of us are just happy to be in the tournament at all, some get these weirdly high expectations (not many), but most know what will likely happen in the madness of it all.
This year is exciting in particular. The Wildcats are starting off the tournament playing Creighton. This would be like any other game in the tournament except for the fact that apart from the Bluejays team is former Wildcat Marcus Foster. Foster was released from the Wildcats team after his freshman season.
This fact adds a little extra drama to the game. Though no former Wildcat besides senior Mason Shoen was even on the roster when Foster was, Bruce Weber was the head coach. A lot of people are interested to see how this game will turn out and how Weber will do.
Okay so besides all the madness that will already be coming in the first game there will be tons more if the Wildcats are able to pull out the W against Creighton. As of right now, the Cats are predicted to lose the game, but if they were to win they would most likely play number one seed, Virginia.
Now it is already big playing the overall number one seed in the tournament and all, but if that is not enough madness for you Virginia like Creighton also has a former Wildcat on the roster. Nigel Johnson spent a year at Kansas State and then decided to transfer.
This is great and all, but now we are back to being a Kansas State basketball fan. In March. You have went through the whole season now the tough losses, the best wins, the losses that most believe should have been wins, and even the blowouts.
You want to have bigger expectations right? But every time there is just something inside you that keeps saying do not do this to yourself again. Maybe if we do not have high hopes then we will do better? You want to be able to have those high hopes for the team that you love, but you do not want to be disappointed again.
Like every other Kansas State/any NCAA basketball fan you probably fill out a bracket for March Madness to compete in a work, family, or friend group. It is fun and lets you in on some competition, but as a Kansas State fan, you are in a rut.
Everyone wants their team to win, but you also want the best bracket. A lot of people will often make a fun bracket having Kansas State win it all, but then enter the bracket where Kansas State loses early into their personal competitions.
It sucks being a Kansas State fan in March because you have just been let down so many times...over and over again. But you can always hope for a turnaround right? And maybe just maybe this is the year Kansas State will prove all of us wrong?
