Honestly, I Just Want People To Love Each Other

Empathy is almost non-existent, and I'm tired of it.

Honestly, I Just Want People To Love Each Other

It's not uncommon for me these days to scroll through my Facebook or Twitter timeline, and then angrily close the app in disgust.

I used to go on unfriending/unfollow sprees every few months. Now I do it at least once a week.

Why is this?

Is it because I am antisocial and hate people? Is it because I don't want to see other people's lives and opinions? No. It's because of the culture of hate that is continuously being fostered by our President, and I'm just really sick of it.

Now, the concept of hate has been around since Cain and Abel in the Bible.

I'm not going to try to say that Trump started this hate culture, or that he is somehow responsible for people misunderstanding and stereotyping each other because that's just not true. I can remember classmates of mine in elementary school (yes, in my Christian elementary school) using racial slurs and name calling each other on the playground because they went down the slide first. It's a part of our sin nature. But sometimes I really think that people don't fight it as much as they should. That they hate because it's easier than trying to understand someone and love them for who they were created to be.

Take the LGBTQ+ community for example.

The amount of ignorance swirling the interwebs about them, especially concerning how our President just banned trans people from the military (how exactly will this be implemented by the way?), is disturbing. Fellow Christians of mine, unfortunately, using our God's name to say these people are an "abomination" and continuously throwing them out of the church and the Christian community in general. That's not okay. Not in any sense of the word. If you identify as LGBTQ+, you can sit by me in church anytime. I won't try to change you because that's not how it works. I'm going to truly love you. And God loves you too. And I'm sorry you feel isolated in this world. I'm so sorry. I will support you in your journey because you deserve to be supported like any other person in this world.

This is just once instance of hate that I see daily. Not to mention the intense hatred against the Black Lives Matter movement, the Muslim community, and any other minority out there really. WHY is it so hard for people to take a moment to shut their mouth, and listen? Pay attention to those suffering around you. Be empathetic. Empathy is so key to life, why is it so hard to implement in our lives?

I know this is an article of a lot of questions, but not a lot of answers.

I know this all may sound really naive, but hear me out. A little empathy goes a long way.

Your words hurt. Yes, even over the internet. Actually, especially over the internet.

If you refuse to love, to empathize, to apologize for past actions, you are a coward. Simple as that.

This was not meant as a call out article for Christians. Perhaps just a wake-up call.

Please. I'm begging you. Politics aside, refuse the culture of hate spewing from the White House.

Stand up. Fight for those with little to no voice.

Be pro-life in every sense of the word.

Love will win, and fear will lose everytime.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
