Sometimes in life, we hit a plateau.
Sometimes we have big plans and we find ourselves stuck. We feel complacent.
Trust me, I understand. Nothing is worse than when you're trying to achieve a goal and you feel like you're not making any progress. This is the point in the journey that defines you, though.
Some people may say that the point in the journey that defines you is when you hit a low. I don't think that plateaus are necessarily a low, so I don't find this statement to be true. I think the points where we get stuck and feel like we are so close, yet so far, are the points that truly define us in our journey.
When we feel like we are stuck, we have to remind ourselves that everything is temporary. This applies to anything, honestly. Happiness is temporary. Sadness is temporary. As we come across emotions, we need to remind ourselves constantly that every feeling in life is temporary.
In today's society, we tend to get so stuck in the moment that we lose sight of the bigger picture. Today's society relies so heavily on the future and what will happen that we tend to lose sight of what is happening in the moment. When we are happy, we sit there and feel like our happiness will last forever so we don't need to cherish it. When we are sad, we tend to do everything we can to move to the next part.
As humans, we are so stuck on the feeling that everything is permanent. This applies to everyone; unfortunately, it is just our human nature. But everything in life is about how we respond to certain situations. Reminding yourself and others that everything in life is temporary makes it easier to respond to certain situations.
To use a personal example, my parents got divorced when I was a freshman in high school. Now, as most of you know, high school is already a very confusing time in life. I found it difficult to transition, even though I was making it appear like I was fine. I remember feeling like I'd be down forever, and that the feeling of sadness would never pass. One day, a friend pulled me aside and reminded me that this is only a small part of my life and that I should live in it and work on myself. This same person told me that eventually, the pain would pass.
I am happy to say that here I am, 4 years later, and I don't feel that pain anymore in the same way that I did when I was a freshman in high school. Whenever you start to feel down, or even feel extremely happy, use it as a time to work on yourself. Eventually, it will pass.
