I Just Got My First Rejection Letter

But This Isn't How You Think It Will End

I Just Got My First Rejection Letter
Cassidy Hope Cunnyngham

No. No I am not talking about a boy. I'm talking about life. It can change in a matter of moments, moments such as when you just get home from your friends house after watching a scary movie and you warm up some mac 'n cheese. But after looking at the mac 'n cheese, you decide you can only eat half of the container that you warmed up before the full container is too many calories.

So, you sit down eating the mac 'n cheese and you're texting your mom. You decide since you haven't checked your email that you should check them before you go to bed. So as you scroll through your email list of spam shopping invitations, you see the news you'd been waiting for weeks! You click on the email and all you see is black text.

As you keep reading, you realize that you didn't get the internship you'd worked your tail off for. You realized that your dreams of going to NYC and working for a mega major media company just came to a crashing halt. So if you recall me eating only half my mac 'n cheese, I ate the whole container instead.

Now this post isn't a pity party for *boo Cassidy, you didn't get to jet set into the NYC horizon*. This post is to remind us that just because something doesn't come to us right when we want it, it doesn't allow us to give up. I could have taken that opportunity to cry and get upset, but instead, I decided to take that moment as a moment to reflect at myself. I'm a junior, I work at an awesome job, I volunteer for 3 student organization, I'm a writer and editor for the Odyssey, and I am a fabulous friend, sister, and daughter. I love Jesus and you'll find me in church every Sunday. These are just some of the reasons why I should be on my way to NYC for an internship this summer.

Instead, I believe that God wants me to be doing something else this summer. Still, I'm not sure what that might be. But you cannot let a moment of defeat, of sadness, or disappointment define who you are. I am taking everything that I have and I'm going to use that in my next application and then the next one after that. We all have moments of down, all have moments of sadness. How are you going to allow that to impact your life? How are you going to let that define who you are? How are you going to turn it around and let it be useful for you?

I love myself. I am proud of the young woman I have evolved into because I worked hard, studied hard, and am proud of who I am. Not every day has sunshine and roses, but everyday is a day that you make it. If you choose to be sad, then choose to be happy. Choose light and choose love.

Everyday someone is having a bad day, a day they received bad news. Don't allow that to take away your smile. Take what makes you special and unique and change the world even if you don't know how to do that now. Go eat your mac 'n cheese and then take the world with a storm of glitter, heels, and pink lipstick because that's how I always feel better!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
