You know, guys, November has been a huge month, full of so many huge events that ultimately decide what direction the world is going in. Of these things, arguably the biggest one so far has already come to pass, yet so many people are still dragging it out, even though there's literally no reason to, at least not yet. Honestly, it's become so excessive, I'm so tempted to shut down all of my social media just to avoid all of the things my friends are posting in regards to it. It's become so annoying, that, honestly, if I don't talk about this to someone, I might just explode. Okay, here we go. WHY IS IT THAT WE AREN'T EVEN HALFWAY THROUGH NOVEMBER YET, AND PEOPLE ARE ALREADY BREAKING OUT THE CHRISTMAS MUSIC AND DECORATIONS?
Seriously, ever since October ended, instead of the cheeky turkey-based props and items that I used to see all the time back when I lived in Europe, all there are at stores, and even some restaurants, now are inflatable snowmen, fake Christmas trees, ornaments, and all of the Michael Buble music you can imagine! What the heck, guys? I know Christmas is a huge thing, especially here in the USA, but come on! We're seriously going to divert the attention to a holiday that's still more than a month away from one that's just in a couple of weeks? Oh, what's that? You don't know what holiday I'm referring to? Alright, well I'll give you a hint. It involves family, friends, and things that you're legitimately thankful for. What? You still don't know? Umm...okay, well this holiday also includes turkey. Does that help at all? Oh my gosh, you guys, THANKSGIVING! I'm talking about Thanksgiving!
In my opinion, this is one of the most important holidays out there, maybe even more so than Christmas--yeah I said it, deal with it!--because it doesn't involve a multitude of presents, hordes of people cramped in stores all over the country, or a competition between neighbours over who's house has the better decorations. I prefer it because it's a holiday that focuses on togetherness, rather than who got what game, toy or car. It's a holiday that allows families to get closer, and for an individual to humble themselves by recalling what it is in life that they're most thankful for. In a world of commercialization that tries to convince you that a big bearded man in a red in white suit, and getting presents, is the epitome of a perfect holiday, it's good to be able to sit back and bond with those that really matter to you. Now I know many of you are probably arguing that the same thing can be done during Christmas, and for those of you, I have this question. Even if that's true, is Christmas the one that's being ignored by the majority of the country? No? Didn't think so.
