Word vomit for the world

The Product Of A Writer's Blocked Mind
Drew Coffman

I'm going to be real with you for a second: I've had a horrible case of writer's block.

Usually, writing is what I do to escape, but now more than ever, it seems like all creativity has been sucked out of me. So this week's Odyssey article will be a train of thought, a nonsensical pile of word vomit that will hopefully get rid of this block in my mind.

You can read this, but I will warn you it's going to make no sense.

I'm super stressed.

Maybe that's why I'm like this. Or maybe it's because I've just been doing so much work. I need to destress: maybe pet some dogs or something. I don't know.

I saw three dogs today and pet only one of them. I missed out on petting two dogs. Grr, Allegra.

Speaking of my name, people always compare me to the allergy medication so I'm going to clear something up: I was born in January of 1998. Legit the medication named Allegra came out later that year and thus began the train of people asking my mom if she named me after the medication.

Allegra means 'happy' or 'joyful' in Italian and I'm Italian. That's where my name comes from.

Alright, alright enough about my name, let's see, what else did I do today?

I went to Panera and picked up food to eat after my Accounting class, so I have that to look forward to. I went with my lovely boyfriend because he needed to go to Party City which was next to the Panera.

He's such a great guy, I'm super lucky. He's going places, hell, he's already there, you know? Has it ever occurred to you that people are super successful at our age? Like, I'm 20 years old and there are some actors that are my age and younger that are uber successful.

Whenever I discover someone who's my age and talented I'm like 'Wow that's insane.'

If you're still reading this, good for you, I appreciate it. Sometimes you need to ramble a bit. It's like letting the trash escape from your mind. And being a college student, my mind has a lot of trash.

A song from the 90s came on the radio the other day and I knew every single word. Like, that's taking up space in my brain. It explains why I can't memorize anything. Like, why are the words to Nicki Minaj's Super Bass taking up space in my head?

Like I said, it's brain trash. And sometimes, you need to take the brain trash out.

Wow, I feel way better! Thank you for letting me get that clutter out of my brain.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
