Now, I know very well that this isn’t the first “Beauty Favorites” or “Makeup Must-Haves” spiel you have found while perusing social media.
If anything, articles or posts like this very one you are reading right now have become a relatively common occurrence on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and maybe even here on the Odyssey.
Nonetheless, I personally love discovering new products and am always down to check out what others have to say about the products that they love and swear by. So, if you would like to know more about some of my personal favorites, then you better just keep on reading.
1. Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot Primer
First things first: Primer. Back in the day when I was a naïve girl attempting makeup, I didn’t use a primer before applying my foundation and would never be happy with how my makeup looked after finishing it.
Boy-oh-boy did primer open the eyes of my oily-skinned self. There is no primer that I have found that makes my skin as smooth and protects it from getting oily better than Soap & Glory’s One Heck of a Blot Primer.
You can buy the primer from Target for $12.00 and you absolutely need to do so this very second if you have never experienced its greatness before.
2. Tarte Shape Tape Foundation & Concealer
There has been so much buzz lately about Tarte’s Shape Tape products. To be honest, I wasn’t totally convinced that these products were heaven-sent until I recently purchased them myself. I now stand corrected.
Somehow, Tarte has mastered the perfect formula for a foundation and concealer that provides complete coverage without making your skin look cakey. The combination of the liquid foundation and the concealer blend so smoothly with one another and leave your skin looking picture-perfect.
An added bonus of both of these products is that they include a doe-foot applicator. Your girl loves a good doe-foot applicator. Although they are pricey, they are worth the expense 10 times out of 10.
3. Rimmel Natural Bronzer
Rimmel’s line of Natural Bronzers is one that I personally think is underrated. I have been using the drugstore bronzers for about two years, and I have yet to find any other bronzer (drugstore or high-end) that I favor over Rimmel’s.
I use the shade “Sunshine” and think it applies so evenly over my skin without making me look way darker than what I should be. I am just about the palest of pales right now, but Rimmel’s Natural Bronzers really do live up to their name.
The formula adds just a hint of color to my oh-so-porcelain skin in the most natural way possible. The best part is that the bronzers are so cheap! They are literally only $5.00 at the drugstore.
4. Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara
If you happen to watch any makeup YouTubers or follow beauty gurus, odds are they have mentioned this drugstore mascara before.
Although the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara is all the rage, if the $23.00 tube isn’t in your budget, go with this $7.00 product from Maybelline. I believe that there are very few mascaras that give the exact eyelash look that I am going for, but this one does the job. It adds volume and length but doesn’t appear clumpy in the slightest bit.
The applicator is amazing, and you really should have this product in your makeup bag at all times.
5. Too Faced Shadow Insurance
I am the type of girl who either wears no eyeshadow or goes all-out with my eyeshadow. On the days I decide to throw some color on my eyelids, I always apply my Too Faced Shadow Insurance.
This product is a little on the pricier end of the spectrum, but the lady at Ulta talked me into it one time, and I am very happy that she did. I hate it so much when I look in the mirror during my day and my eyeshadow has sort of faded or there is a huge crease just hanging out on my eyelid.
With the Shadow Insurance, these are never concerns of mine. I can even sleep in my eyeshadow and wake up the next day with it perfectly in place. Don’t ask me how, because I roll all over the place in my sleep. They must just sprinkle a little magic in for the added insurance.
6. Benefit Brow Pencil
Oh, eyebrows. What an interesting component of makeup. For the longest time, I never thought I needed to do anything to my eyebrows.
That mentality changed in high school and I went through all the stages of adding just a smidge of makeup to my brows to going all-out when I would fill them in.
Now I am at a point that I want my brows looking as full but as natural as possible. I do not want big rectangles sitting above my eyeballs, but hey, if that’s what you prefer, to each his own.
Either way, the Benefit Brow Pencil has such an incredible formula and makes natural yet beautiful brows very attainable. Precision is also an added bonus with this pencil.
7. Catrice Liquid Lip Powder
The last makeup product that I am going to mention is one that I stumbled upon just a few weeks ago actually.
The Catrice Liquid Lip Powder is truly phenomenal. I bought my first one from Ulta for $8.00 before one of my boyfriend’s track meets and was truly amazed by how well it stayed on my lips. I applied the color “Café Americano, Please” on my lips around 10:00 a.m. on the morning of the track meet.
At the meet, I ate snacks, drank my drink, probably chewed my lips a little bit from nervousness, and STILL, by that evening, nothing about the appearance of my lips had changed. The lip powder has a matte finish but didn’t dry out my lips, and I will definitely be purchasing more.
