21 Lessons Junior Year Of College Taught Me

Junior year had a lot of ups and downs, but it's over now and as crazy as it feels, I only have one year left in paradise. One year left of the "best four years of my life." I turned 21 this year, so here are 21 things I learned during my third year at the University of Tampa.

1. 21 is literally just a number and a birthday.

2. Friends will always come and go; there’s no time period of friendship where people magically become your “forever friends."

3. Just because you're best friends doesn't mean you'd be the best roommates.

4. It’s never too late to apologize.

5. Sometimes a relationship doesn’t work out and you two need to grow a little bit.

6. It’s okay to try again with a previous love interest—just be cautious.

7. It’s also okay to know when it’s time to move on.

8. Apply for internships and jobs 6 months in advance...not six weeks in advance.

9. Trust should be earned, not initially presented.

10. Network. Make connections with absolutely anyone you can within your field of focus.

11. Keep your big class projects and papers because applications often ask for samples and it’s time to start focusing on a portfolio.

12. House-hunting is nauseating, exciting, and extremely overwhelming all at once.

13. Take music suggestions from friends and expand your musical horizons.

14. Working out is always the right answer when you need to exert any negative energy.

15. Take advantage of your meal plan.

16. Stand up for yourself in the workplace as well as in the classroom.

17. Don't sleep on Fresh Kitchen sweet potato noodles (read below).

18. Getting double noodles is always the move (read above).

19. Making mistakes is all a part of your path toward learning how to be the best you you can be.

20. There are times where you can't listen to what other people are saying and just follow what you feel is right. If it doesn't work out well for you in the end, at least you know it was your decision.

21. Love yourself unconditionally.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
