So I have this group of girlfriends, but they’re more like family. We were inseparable in high school, but life has led our group to be geographically separated since graduation. Living in different cities has only made our relationships stronger. It started with Rachel. She chose Auburn while the rest of us went to LSU. This summer, Megan had plans to move to Houston and Hannah had plans to move to Spain. Not okay guys. We must have multiple girl nights before everyone is scattered! Everyone has different work schedules and life responsibilities though, so it’s always a challenge to get the whole group together.
It was my idea to do June Under the Moon. Surprisingly, everyone was available to come! June Under the Moon is basically an adult night at the New Orleans City Park. You buy your ticket ahead of time and you get unlimited rides and beer for the entire event. So, we bought our tickets weeks ahead of time, we made big plans since the whole group was together, we were all excited about this epic girls night, but then we checked the weather radar… Yep. Rain. The event was canceled and moved to the next day. But then the next day came, and guess what, the rain was even worse. They decided to have the event anyway on the rescheduled night. That didn’t bother us because we looked like a rainbow in different colored rain jackets. Cutest rainbow you’d ever see!
It was an interesting night. We beat the rain at first, but it caught up to us pretty quickly. Of course, most of the rides were closed because rides are not safe in the rain. But don’t worry, they couldn’t use rain as an excuse to close the bar.
I thought it was funny that once the rain started, it seemed as though all of the workers disappeared. I guess they took shelter somewhere dry. But with no workers, there was no one around to enforce any rules. So since there were no bartenders, we poured our own beer from the tap (Hannah and Andy just loved that). There was no one working the ladybug ride, so we decided to take some pictures with this beloved rollercoaster.
On the carousel, Andy and I rode on one horse together. You might be thinking, “Wow you had two people on one horse on the carousel, what a rebel!” But, when I tried to pull this stunt as a kid, I would get in trouble. My inner child was celebrating this grand triumph. We also splashed around in the entrance fountain. Although a police officer did come up to us in the fountain, smiled as he watched us fooling around, and then told us we had to get out of the fountain. Good times, girls.
Since this night, Megan and Hannah have both officially moved away. Hannah is married, Andy is starting law school, Karah is starting her new job as a teacher, Megan is in grad school, and Rachel is almost done with her engineering degree. Wait, how did we get so adult? Weren’t we just eating lunch in the MCA cafeteria dressed as pink panthers yesterday?
I guess moral of the story is this: it doesn’t matter what you do, it matters whom you do it with. I really didn’t care that I was out in the rain for hours. I had so much fun because I was with my favorite people in the world. We were giggling like little girls and just enjoying our time together. It was one of those nights that I will always remember.
This post is dedicated to these amazing girls! I am so happy to call them my best friends.
