7 Things I Carried With Me In The Heart Of Summer 2017

This July has been quietly filled as the time seems to slowly pass.

I turned 20, went to the outer banks of North Carolina (beautiful), ate and drank with people I care about (even better), and celebrated slow living.

Here are 7 things I've been carrying with me during the heart of summer:

1. Alexandra Bowman's Art

I've been loving her blue illustrations with the focus on women and their lives. I just got "Party Part II" in bag form for my birthday.

Don't miss her on Society6: https://society6.com/alexandrabowman

2. Middle Eastern Vegetarian Cookbook

Salma Hage, from North Lebanon, includes Lebanese home recipes in a way that is easy to follow. The ingredient lists all have things easily found in America, or it lists spices you can combine to get a similar taste. She has officially gotten me hooked on homemade salad dressings. Big fan of the Ginger Strawberry Mint Lemonade too.

3. Melodrama

Lorde is as candid as ever. Her voice in haughtily honest. Be ready for: The Louvre, Hard Feelings/ Loveless, and Supercut.

4. Swimming Lessons by Claire Fuller

This story of two women and their father, years after their mother disappeared became a lot smarter than I gave it credit for. A heartbreaking story, with some really beautiful moments.

5. Child's Pose

I usually read a lot during the summer, and my back has been needing some relief. Sometimes the best medicine is a timeless pose to just sit and breathe in.

7. And what could potentially be the coolest compliment:

What have you been getting into this month?

Hope everyone's July has been filled with love!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
