The Presidential election recounts in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin that were requested by Jill Stein are proceeding in all three states. Michigan’s vote recount started after the elections board became deadlocked in 2-2 vote. In Pennsylvania, where the vote recount has already started, Trump’s lead has shrunk from 71,000 to 49,000. Although it is not believed that the outcome in Pennsylvania will change. Trump has tried to block the recounts in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan, but has so far been unsuccessful.
It seems unlikely that any of the outcomes in the states will be changed as a result of this recount. The margins of victory for Trump in all three states seem to be too large for there to have been too much of a counting error. Although, one concern has been raised regarding the possibility of a counting error in the recount, given the fact that the recounts need to be done quickly, and seeing as how there were errors made in the original vote count, it is possible that even greater errors may take place.
Jill Stein has stated that she simply wants the recount in order to test the validity of the voting system. In my opinion, the most likely reason for this recount effort is not to legitimately see if there has in fact been an error. It is unlikely that Stein actually cares about testing the validity of the voting system. I also do not believe that anyone, whether the Clinton campaign or anyone else, intends to rig the recount. The most likely scenario seems to be that Jill Stein is looking for media attention so that she can use it to her advantage in the future. Now that people on the left are growing sick of the Democratic Party establishment, the progressive movement is looking to take control of the party. Their original hero, Bernie Sanders, is 75 years old. By the time the 2020 elections roll around, he will be 79. It is unlikely that he will ever run for president again. The progressives need a new figurehead, and it’s possible that Jill Stein is looking to fill that role.
