There are a plethora of things to do with mason jars all over the internet, but what does this have to do with the new year?
Here is an idea for remembering great moments of 2017 with a minimal amount of work.
Starting January 1st all the way to December 31st, write down something good that happened to you on a piece of small paper, crinkle it up, put it in the jar! It doesn't have to be every day, but both small and big feats are worthy of being put in the jar.
Many think of beginning a new year with a clean slate and a whole year to try again at self-improvement or some other resolution. Instead of a resolution, try a project that lasts the entire year and reaps amazing memories that would be otherwise forgotten.
So I titled this as Happiness in a Jar, this means having cute flying squirrels that I can set free in my room to give me the ultimate amount of happiness and stress relief??
Not exactly. What I mean for this jar: listing out on paper things you did that you will want to remember one day in the future, or at the end of that year. These will be little or big reminders of how great life really is.
Examples of gains to put in the jar:
o I was able to put $100 away into my savings account
o I didn't have a mental breakdown this week/month/# of months
o I volunteered with/for...
o I successfully did...
Examples of events to write down:
o Went sledding with [Name1, Name2], on [Date]
o Went to Formal [Date]
o Won [Scholarship, Award, Competition], [Date]
o Went to Prom with [Name], [Date]
o Graduated from High School/College, [Date]
o ...Got Married [Date]
o Started a new job/ got promoted [Date]
o Went on a date with [Name], [Date]
Some more examples:
o Zoo Lights Experience [Date]
o Gave a presentation without stuttering/hyperventilating [Date]
o Had a meal with family [Mom, Dad, Grandparents, etc]
o Got a PUPPY on [Date]
o Met someone new...now my new best friend!
I'm sure you get the idea!
At the end of the year, you open the jar and read all that you wrote down.
Plus, you will probably remember a ton that slipped your mind of the last year and have this exact reaction: THE NOSTALGIA IS REAL!
Most of the time, we think the past year was completely awful (2016, right?) In reality, we probably had many really great things happen to us that we completely forgot about. Doing this project all year long with humble yourself in the end and make you really appreciate all the good that happens in your life.
It takes about one minute to write down something good that happened that will bring back a fond memory at the end of the year. I have done this project for the last two years and it was totally worth it.
